Paradis Island serves as the final remnant of the Empire of Eldia following the Great Titan War. The island hosts refugees who are mainly ethnic Eldians. Historically, Eldia was a hegemon that utilized the Nine Titans to dominate other nations until Marley, a former vassal state, declared war and seized several Titan powers. This conflict led to Eldia's collapse and the retreat of its people behind three concentric walls on Paradis. The military within these Walls is divided into three specific divisions: the Garrison Regiment, the Survey Corps, and the Military Police Brigade. Leadership rests with Darius Zackly, who serves as both the commander-in-chief of the military and the premier of the government. Applicants must first enter the Training Corps before joining one of these three branches. The narrative highlights that Eldia is now a persecuted group, with nations like Marley viewing them as enemies to be eradicated.

Later revelations showed his father had killed the Reiss family and passed down the Founding Titan and Attack Titan powers to Eren by having him eat him. In the final arc, Eren unleashed millions of Colossal Titans in a genocidal crusade that wiped out 80% of humanity. The Survey Corps and Marleyan Warriors united to stop him, leading to Mikasa killing Eren after he explained his desire to see everything leveled down in the Paths.
