Recruitment is strictly limited to the top exam scorers from each Training Corps class, intended to place the most capable soldiers in charge of the capital's security. The Brigade was instrumental in suppressing internal dissent, such as when the First Interior Squad, led by Kenny Ackerman, hunted down threats to the royal secrets. This unit operated with cold efficiency, utilizing firearms rather than vertical maneuvering gear to neutralize targets. The Brigade's loyalty to the Reiss family and the monarchy meant they often obstructed efforts to uncover the truth about Titans, viewing any challenge to the status quo as a rebellion to be crushed.

In Their Own Story

The narrative reveals the Brigade's deep entanglement in political machinations before the fall of the monarchy. Darius Zackly, acting as both commander-in-chief and premier, orchestrated a shift in power after witnessing the nobles' willingness to abandon Wall Rose. Following a bold ploy by the Survey Corps that exposed this betrayal, Zackly pledged support for Erwin Smith's plan to overthrow the monarchy. This led to the First Interior Squad being restrained by Darius's men, detaining the noblemen loyal to Rod Reiss. The Brigade's internal factions were thus split; while some remained loyal to the old regime or sought self-preservation, others were forced to confront their complicity when the truth about the Titans and the outside world could no longer be suppressed.

Reader's Guide

The Military Police is divided into three main divisions within the military structure: the Garrison Regiment, the Survey Corps, and the Brigade itself. Applicants must first complete the Training Corps, with only the highest graduates eligible for assignment to the MP.
